Officers:
Senior Warden: Mike Binford - Finance, Stewardship

Mike and Nancy have been coming to Hilton Head for over forty years and they moved here full-time in 2011. They met as undergraduates at Vanderbilt University, and both went on to graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where Mike earned his PhD in political science. He taught at Georgia State University in Atlanta for thirty-one years.


Mike served on several vestries and as senior warden twice in Atlanta. Since coming to All Saints, they have been active in the Altar Guild, Ushers, and Supper Club. Mike joined the vestry in 2015 and has served as liaison to Stewardship and Outreach committees.

Junior Warden: Joyce Emmett - Buildings & Grounds

Joyce has been vacationing in Hilton Head since the early 90’s when she and her husband, Rich, bought a condo in Sea Pines Plantation.  They moved to Port Royal Plantation in 2013 after Joyce retired from the Danbury Public Schools in Connecticut, where she had served as both a special education teacher and administrator. Joyce and Rich grew up in Connecticut and have been married for 38 years.  They have two children – Gregory and Lauren.  Gregory lives in Durham, NC and is married to Regina.  They have two children, Clare and Jack. Lauren lives in Brooklyn with her husband Andrew.

Joyce has been involved in several ministries since joining All Saints.  They include Family Promise, The Garden Tour, Altar Guild, The Preston, Voorhees College, and Supper Club.
Joyce enjoys the fellowship and spirituality that distinguishes All Saints and feels privileged to serve on the vestry.

Treasurer: Mark Szen* - Finance, Stewardship

Mark and his wife, Nancy, came to Hilton Head in August, 2000, after living in Derry, New Hampshire, for 20 years.  A lifelong Episcopalian, Mark and his family immediately joined All Saints.  Their three sons, Matt, Tim and Kyle were welcomed into the youth group.  Mark became the assistant treasurer in 2001, and has been treasurer since 2002. 

Mark was raised in Sherborn, Massachusetts, and attended the University of Lowell, where he met Nancy.  They married in 1981.  Mark studied accounting at U. Lowell and was manager for their baseball and basketball teams and Sports Editor for the campus newspaper.  He was a member of Omicron Pi Fraternity, treasurer for two years and was an officer on its alumni board for more than 20 years.

Mark worked for State Street Bank, Computer Associates, and the State of New Hampshire as a computer programmer and financial analyst. He currently works part time at Big Lots in Bluffton and referees high school basketball and soccer. 

At All Saints, Mark has served the vestry since 2002 either as a member or treasurer.  He has been on three mission trips to the Dominican Republic, been a team leader for four Habitat for Humanity homes, and was a key person for the Cornerstone Campaign, which raised over a million dollars and eliminated our mortgage.

Clerk: Kerry Grant* - Communications

Kerry and his wife Sandy, our Deacon, retired to Hilton Head Island in 2001, and they have been members of All Saints ever since.  Both were raised Roman Catholic and were received into the Episcopal Church at Christ Episcopal Church in Bethany, Connecticut, in the 1980s. Before retiring they lived in New Haven, Connecticut, where they were professors for more than thirty years at Southern Connecticut State University – Kerry teaching mathematics and Sandy teaching Spanish and Spanish literature.  Kerry was also very active in campus governance and in the faculty union, a local affiliate of the American Association of University Professors.  Kerry remains involved with the AAUP at the national level as Parliamentarian for the Association.

Kerry has a daughter and a son from a previous marriage, both deceased.  Kerry and Sandy celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary a few years ago.

Kerry was called to Vestry service in 2004, serving on the Community Life Commission and the Spiritual Life Commission before finding his niche as Clerk, a position he has filled since 2006.  He took over the fledgling All Saints web-site in 2004, and has been a webmaster ever since.  In 2005 Kerry completed the EfM course, then became an EfM mentor, and has led or co-led several EfM groups since.  He has served as an usher and a greeter, has been a Eucharistic minister at the 8:00 am service for more than a dozen years, and is currently one of the Sacred Storytellers.

Chancellor: Michael Jordan*

Michael, a long-time resident of Hilton Head and a well-known lawyer here for decades, has been Chancellor to the Vestry since 2006.  He has served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at the 8:00 service.

Since retireing recently, Michael and his wife, Virginia, split their time between Hilton Head and the mountains of North Carolina.

Carol Clapp - Outreach 

Carol began as an occasional, then winter visitor to Hilton Head and now resides here full time with Howard Coonley. She was raised in Philadelphia and spent her adult life in Greater Hartford and Litchfield County, Connecticut. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, her law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law and an M.S. In Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. 

Having served as a lawyer in government, private, and corporate practices for over 30 years, she happily retired in 2009. Carol is Jewish by heritage but was first exposed to the religious life in Quaker school. She was a seeker for many years until joyously baptized and confirmed at Christ Church Cathedral in Connecticut. When All Saints opened its arms to her, she knew she had arrived home. Carol is the new coffee hour coordinator and is devoted to Women's Bible Study, JULIETS, and Thursday Book Study.

Carol has two sons, Elijah Talcott Clapp and Jacob Wise Clapp, who live in Connecticut and Seattle, respectively. Elijah and his wife Annabel have one son, Benjamin. Rounding out her family are Obi Wan and Zooey, two Shih Tzu.

Lesley Gilbert - Finance

Lesley came to Hilton Head and All Saints from Northern Virginia where she retired from Booz Allen Hamilton.  She had a career in Corporate Finance which included NCR, PRC, Xerox, and Booz Allen.  She gravitated to the Finance Commission at All Saints and now is the liaison from the vestry to the Commission as well as serving as its Chair.  She also is the President of ECW.

With her husband John, they are parents to two sons, daughters-in-law and three grandchildren (19, 9, and 6).  Having met in high school in Toledo, Ohio, they married and then embarked on John’s 26 year Air Force career. They are also fortunate to have Lesley’s mother, Jean Gross living with them and enjoying All Saints.  She is Church of England so ensured that Lesley was baptized, confirmed, married in the Episcopal Church.

Barbara Pearson - Parish Life

Barbara, a native of Virginia, attained an undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and a graduate degree in library media from James Madison University.  Over a 35 year career in library work, Barbara served in various capacities in various types of libraries and fully retired August, 2010, after working in Beaufort County library system for 5 years.

Barbara and Mel have two grown sons.  Dr. Carl Pearson and his wife, Dr. Juliet Pulliam, work for the University of Florida.  Chandler works as a civil engineer in Winchester, VA. Both sons currently serve as active reserve military officers.

Over the years, Barbara has attended each of the three Episcopal churches in this area.  Barbara’s mother also attended Memory Matters when it was still housed at All Saints.  Barbara and Mel chose All Saints because it is an open, welcoming and very comfortable and loving church environment.  Previously they were members of Diocese of Virginia and attended two different parishes in Virginia, where Barbara served on the vestry.

John Phillips - Communications, Stewardship

John attended Phillips Academy (Andover) and Amherst College (BA in Psychology). He continued his education at the University of New Haven in evening courses and earned an MBA in 1973.

John and Linda met each other in the summer of 1966, and they married in June of 1969, 10 days after John’s Graduation from Amherst.  The love they shared resulted in three Children – Laura, Wendy, and Sean (all of whose love resulted in 7 grandchildren).

John and Linda started coming to the Hilton Head area in 1998 when they began their boating search of the US East Coast for a place to “retire”. They moved to Bluffton in 2006, but continued to live most of the time on their boat, “ADNIL”, until they moved to Hilton Head Island in 2013 and sold their final vessel after 36 years of cruising. They had joined All Saints in 2011.

Most of John’s career was in various phases of Real Estate and then Land Use Consulting with brief forays in retailing, education, and local Government. Linda was his fantastic support mechanism, and both were active in local charity organizations.  They were active in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Madison, CT where John participated in various involvements including the Vestry. Linda was involved with the Sunday preschool and later needlepointing Eucharist kneelers at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Essex, CT.

Karen Reuter - Music, Worship

Karen and her husband, Bob, moved to Hilton Head permanently in November 2009, after visiting for many years.  Karen had a 30 year career with the federal government in contracting, as well as working for both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives earlier. 

Karen is a life-long Episcopalian and served on the vestry at St. James Mt. Vernon in Alexandria, Virginia.  Karen and Bob joined All Saints in the fall of 2011.  Since that time, Karen has served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Sacred Storytellers.
